Societal and Security Aspects

There are two principle sensitivities which RFID touches upon being it’s hard to detect presence and the care with which RFID needs to be implemented to minimize security risks. To combat these challenges and aligned with industry support of the European Commission's RFID Recommendation we have the RFID Emblem and the "Privacy and Data Protection Impact Assessment Framework for RFID Applications" which is frequently referred to as the "RFID PIA Framework".
